On the third Saturday of February 2020, we are excited to introduce Amy Sparks, of A Visual Spark, who will present on “Graphic Recording: Making Conversations Visual Using Words, Pictures, and Color.”
Graphic recording uses large hand-drawn images, words, and color to record and support important group conversations.
Amy will present the basics of graphic recording, how the discipline developed, preparation for a job, materials and supplies, her criteria for success, “palettes” of color and lettering styles, how to use quickly drawn images to support content, and resources for learning more.
She will be showing examples of graphic recording from around the world as well as some of her own work.
The lettering principles used in graphic recording can also be applied to your note-taking, flip-charts, or lettering projects.
This program will also include a hands-on activity to experiment with lettering styles, weights, and color as a way to distinguish key concepts from supporting details.
What to Bring
If you have them, bring Tombow dual-tipped brush pens (black, red, green, or yellow). No need to buy them if you don't; Amy will bring plenty of markers along.
Also bring the following, to experiment with sizes, if you have any of them:
A fat chisel marker
A sharpie brush tip
A 15mm marker
A folded pen, since you can get a wide, medium, and small stroke.
Our goal will be to make wide, medium, and narrow letters that work in relation to each other. A warning: We will be working on inexpensive printer paper, so we recommend that you don't bring your good nibs.
Before the presentation at 1:00pm, visit the Demo Corner beginning at 12:30pm, where Sally Wightkin will be demonstrating “Neuland Variations and Inspirations.”
During this social time, those who attend are also invited to visit the Colleagues Library table, and to bring calligraphy to “Show and Share.”
Light refreshments and coffee will be provided.
