This is not just another Zoom workshop! This is a professionally designed and executed online EVENT. This calligraphy-conference-modeled workshop was developed especially for the online format and will be moderated and hosted by a professional Zoom-host, Heather Martinez.
In the workshop, Tamer will review the essential, recommended tools needed to write in this style, including tips and tricks for working with the tools. Tamer will then provide detailed, step-by-step instructions for constructing the minuscule and majuscule alphabets using the innovative blackletter guide sheets that he developed.
Calligraphy, of course, has always been an important inspiration for type design. Now, we will turn that around by examining dozens of 20th Century European calligraphic typefaces and use them as the starting points for our handmade lettering.
We have canceled the workshop originally scheduled for April 18-19, 2020, where Carl Rohrs was scheduled to guide participants in examining several 20th Century European calligraphic typefaces, to use them as the starting points for handmade lettering. We hope to reschedule once community gatherings resume.

Yukimi will guide us in using tools as extensions of our hand as we create marks and design alphabets to write our chosen texts in various ways. Study of layering, tones, basic design layout and composition, and use of line and space in Japanese calligraphy will be presented for making effective textures.
If you’ve wanted to learn how to draw, add illustrations to your calligraphy, build drawing skills to improve painting or simply conquer your fear of drawing (or all of the above), this class is for you!
Come and explore exquisite versal forms from every genre. Traditional techniques will be learnt along with new and more gestural versal forms.
Learn this elegant hand by working through a series of selective exercises and come to understand the nuances of certain writing masters that resulted in a hand more elegant and cursive in structure than formal italic.
