We will begin by grounding ourselves in a strong, basic form of gothic: Textura. Then we will, variable by variable, morph it through a series of permutations; creating variations, modernizing it and doing projects that are anything but traditional.
Take a tour of the expressive ways calligraphers have used both traditional and contemporary gilding throughout the centuries.

Join the Colleagues of Calligraphy at this presentation by Mike Gold, former Senior Lettering Designer with American Greetings and calligraphy instructor extraordinaire. We will learn a little about Mike and his lettering journey followed by a lecture he first gave at Seattlers in 2018.
Member Patricia Paolella will share her recent workshop experience designing a digital font from her own handwriting. She will share ideas of how you can, too!
Mike's presentation will focus on readability being the top priority in his craft. Readability always separates the good signs from the bad. He will also share many tips and tricks he has collected over his more than 30 years in the sign making business.
Join us to create your own Tiny Toothpick Journal using the piano hinge book construction. We will unlock the “mystery” of this clever construction under Georgia’s skilled instruction.
In the workshop, Tamer will review the essential, recommended tools needed to write in this style, including tips and tricks for working with the tools. Tamer will then provide detailed, step-by-step instructions for constructing the minuscule and majuscule alphabets using the innovative blackletter guide sheets that he developed.
On Friday, October 15, 2021, we will gather to hear from calligrapher and teacher, Tamer Ghoneim who will be conducting our fall workshop on October 16 & 17.
